DETROIT — A Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas is returning to court without his four-member defense team.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (OO’-mahr fah-ROOK’ ahb-DOOL’-moo-TAH’-lahb) will represent himself when he appears for a pretrial hearing Thursday in Detroit federal court. He’ll be accompanied by standby counsel Anthony Chambers, who can give advice.
